Apply direct to the retailer
Fastest route. Have your current bill (NMI number), your address, and proof
of EV ownership ready. Switching takes 2–5 business days and there is no
cost or interruption to supply — your new retailer handles the transfer.

Request a smart meter
You request this from your retailer, not the network company.
Under AER rules they must arrange installation within 20 business days, and
there is no upfront cost when the retailer initiates it. Ask for it at the same
time as your plan switch — that way it is bundled and free.
No cost when bundled · 20 business days

Book the charger install
A wall charger must be installed by a licensed electrician to AS/NZS 3000.
Book this before your plan switch completes so you can use the cheap window
from day one. We match your property to partner installers.

Upgrade to three-phase — only if you need it
Most homes don't: single-phase 7kW adds ~250km overnight. Three-phase makes
sense for 22kW charging, two EVs, or a very short cheap window. The upgrade
runs through a licensed electrician (in NSW, an accredited Level 2 provider)
who lodges a connection application with your network distributor —
you never contact the distributor yourself. Tick the assessment box below
and we scope it before you spend anything.
$3,000 – $8,000 · allow 2–6 weeks

Let WE DRIVER arrange it
One request, and we sequence the whole thing: confirm the plan against your
actual usage, prepare the smart meter request for your retailer, and book a
licensed installer if you need a charger or a supply upgrade.
